Optical train positioning system - OSTIRION [InnoTrans 2026]
OSTIRION introduced its new optical positioning system for the rail industry at InnoTrans 2026. Based in Spain and founded in 2021, the company specializes in robotics, artificial intelligence and mechanical missions, and is using its high-performance robotics development platform and modular hardware to frame its railway offering.
The system combines cameras and a computer to detect incoming markers, update the map and determine the train’s position on the network. By reading markers and refreshing position data, the company says it can significantly improve positioning accuracy, while also supplementing or replacing existing balises and layering position information on top of GPS or other signals already carried by the train.
OSTIRION is currently seeking rail-industry partners to carry out proof-of-concept work and develop the product further within the railway sector. It is positioning the system not as a standalone device, but as a way to add an extra layer of positioning information to existing onboard and trackside systems.

00:00 Hello, my name is Hector Vario. I am the chief technology officer of OSTIRION.
00:04 We are a Spanish company founded in 2021 and we're a specialist in robotics, artificial intelligence, and machine mission.
00:12 We are here in InnoTrans exhibiting our new product which is an optical positioning system for railway industry.
00:20 Our system encompasses both cameras and computers that will help us locate the position of the train in the network.
00:26 How it works is the system will try to detect incoming markers, the marker will be read and the map will be updated to show the location of the train.
00:37 In this way, we can increase very highly the accuracy of the position of the train.
00:41 We can supplement or substitute existing balises markers and we can provide a position on top of any GPS signal or any other signaling that the train already has.
00:53 At this point, we are looking for partners in the rail industry to be able to make proof of concepts and develop our product inside the railway sector.
01:02 Thank you very much for your attention.
